Cameron Elementary Primary Years Programme

Programme of Inquiry

Each grade level at Cameron School has carefully developed six units of inquiry based on the themes from the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.  Together these units create a school-wide Programme of Inquiry that is both concept-based and inquiry-based, providing our students an engaging and rigorous learning environment.

The Learner Profile

At Cameron School, we strive to develop learners who respect themselves, others and the world around them.  Our goal is to support every student in developing the capacities needed to be a successful, contributing member of society.  The IB Learner Profile aims to develop learners that are:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

I am a RISK-TAKER when I try new things, even when I am not sure.

I am PRINCIPLED when I show honesty and try to do the right thing.

I am KNOWLEDGEABLE when I learn new concepts and ideas.

I am BALANCED when I take care of my mind, body, and feelings.

I am CARING when I am compassionate and show concern for others.

I am INQUIRING when I am curious and ask questions.

I am a COMMUNICATOR when I share my ideas and listen to others.

I am a THINKER when I solve problems and make decisions.

I am REFLECTIVE when I think about the things I have said and done, and I make changes to improve.

I am OPEN-MINDED when I appreciate my own culture, as well as the views, values, traditions, and cultures of others.

5th Grade Exhibition

The Exhibition is an important part of the Primary Years Programme and serves as a culminating experience for our 5th grade students. During Exhibition, students experience a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process in which they identify, investigate and take action to solve real-life issues or problems. The Exhibition offers  students an opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their own learning.

Over the course of approximately 8 weeks, our 5th grade students will select and research global issues and inquire into local connections.  Based on these inquiries, students will work collaboratively to develop a plan and take action to make a difference.
